Heating – Types of Home Heating System

A home is a place where an individual comes to relax after a hectic day at work. It can be made cozy and homely for the individual by providing the home with adequate heating facility. In summer the home needs facility to dissipate the heat from inside the house to the outside. In winter the home must be maintained warm and cozy using suitable heating system. It should also be kept in mind that the home should be warm not a hot furnace. In most of the cold areas 50% of the yearly energy bill constitutes heating. There are many ways to reduce these energy bills due to heating; this can be done by selecting the right and efficient heating system for your home after consulting an efficient and skilled technician.

The heating system for a particular house is selected after keeping in mind the budget they have, the type of fuel required. There are mainly four types of heating systems electric, hot water, steam and forced warm air. The heating system mainly consists of a furnace structure which generates heat and a thermostat which regulates the amount of heat required. If the temperature is low them thermostat is turned on and the water, air or steam is heated and passed through ducts to the living rooms. Forced Air is a popular choice in heating homes, here the air id drawn from the house and heated in the furnace and circulated into the rooms by means of another duct. The temperature is distributed in each room by means of registers. Thus it is possible to regulate the heat in each room by opening or closing the registers.

Another heating system commonly used is the boilers. Boilers can be hot water, steam or condensing boilers. Condensing boilers are preferred in very cold areas. Boilers with very low power consumption, and thermal mass must be selected as they will reduce the energy bills. Another type of heating element is the heat pumps, this can be air source or ground source. Air source is preferred for areas with mild or warm climate while ground source heat pumps are preferred for warm and cold climate. They are costly than air source heat pumps mainly because the heat is taken from the underground where temperature remains constant through out.

Radiant Baseboard Heaters are heating elements with metal units which have electrical elements inside. They are typically costlier than the traditional furnaces used in homes as each are provided with its control and also marked with high and low temperature markings. In Radiant ceiling and Floor heating the heating system is installed in ceilings and floors, here water flows through the tubes heating the room. Boilers are also present to heat the circulating water. There are many types of heating systems still available these can be selected by consulting a skilled technician who can give you efficient advice on which system is suitable for your home and surrounding.
